The Role of the Media in American Democracy: A Conversation with Jonah Goldberg

On Wednesday, February 1 at 6pm, join Georgetown Bipartisan Coalition, in partnership with GU Politics and the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), for a conversation with Jonah Goldberg. Goldberg, who is the Editor-in-Chief of The Dispatch and a senior fellow at AEI, will discuss the critical role the media plays in maintaining our American Democracy.

The Intersectionality Lecture Series featuring Sonora Reyes

The Women’s Center and LGBTQ Resource Center are proud to announce the launch of the new Intersectionality Lecture Series. The first event in this series is a conversation with author Sonora Reyes. Born and raised in Arizona, Sonora Reyes is the author of The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School and the forthcoming contemporary young adult novel: The Luis Ortega Survival Club. In Sonora’s sharply funny and moving debut novel, The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School follows a queer Mexican American girl navigating Catholic school, while falling in love and learning to celebrate her true self. Georgetown community members can pick up a free copy of The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School in the Women’s Center, Leavey 327, Monday-Friday, 12-4 pm. Georgetown Jumpstart is Hiring!

Jumpstart is an early education program in DC that aims to improve literacy and socio-emotional skills for the pre-K children we serve through reading books. We are currently in the process of recruiting Corps Members to join our program for Spring 2023. This position has FWS/Volunteer positions and stipends available in addition to a $1,300 educational scholarship. This is a perfect opportunity for students to gain volunteering, classroom, and professional experiences.

Apply to the Doyle Global Dialogue!

Are you studying abroad this year? Join us to reflect on your experiences! Applications for the Spring 2023 Doyle Global Dialogue close on January 31st. The Doyle Global Dialogue is a peer-to-peer exchange network comprised of students studying abroad. This includes international students studying on the Hilltop, our GU-Q campus, and abroad. DGD participants write reflections and create social media content about their experiences in their host countries and share these reflections among small peer cohorts. Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive $500. See our website and application form for more information.

Are you interested in Healthcare Equity and Global Health? Come join Georgetown GlobeMed! We hold weekly meetings that center around specific global health topics, including groundwater pollution, the impact of culture on health, and more! We also conduct fundraisers every semester to raise money for Primeros Pasos, our partner clinic in Guatemala, which provides affordable healthcare to thousands of families in Palajunoj Valley. All are welcome to join at this time! Meetings this semester will include exciting opportunities to apply for an in-person internship this summer.
