Our mission is to encourage and empower Georgetown students to give back to the Hilltop. We believe that philanthropy at Georgetown includes: participation, loyal giving, and giving to areas on campus you care about. By building a habit of contributing what we can, we aim to foster the Jesuit value of service to others. The 1634 Society also seeks to celebrate traditions here at Georgetown. By hosting a number of signature events on campus each year, including Traditions Day, a component of Homecoming Weekend, we help keep the history of Georgetown alive with each new class. Lastly, the 1634 Society works to connect students and alumni to one another. Through alumni panels and networking sessions, we provide students the opportunity to learn from those who came before them and to make fellow Hoya connections.

The After School Kids (ASK) Program serves at-potential teens in the DC metropolitan area who are making positive strides in their lives and to be catalysts for change in their community. Our youth are adversely impacted by the cradle-to-prison pipeline and may experience obstacles to obtaining their high school diploma, exploring careers, or advancing their postsecondary education. It is not uncommon for our youth to experience chronic trauma exposure, involvement in the court system, and to be over-aged and under-credited. Despite obstacles, our youth envision a brighter future through education, social action, and wellness. ASK provides programming and support to help them realize their vision.

The Alternative Breaks Program (ABP) brings together Georgetown community members in order to foster intersectional solidarity and inspire lasting commitments to service and social justice. ABP trips engage with diverse and vibrant communities through direct service, immersion, and reflection in a substance-free environment. By creating a space for sustained dialogue and action, ABP strives to build long-term relationships with community partners and bring the experience home.

The Operations Team supports CSJ EngageDCorps programs, student organizations, community-based learning courses, engaged research, and racial justice work through "behind-the-scenes" infrastructure and logistics. Members of the Center Operations Team will work closely with CSJ professional staff in necessary administrative and financial work, training and compliance, and other operations. Hours for each Operations team member are highly flexible and built around that student's schedule. The Operations team includes opportunities for leadership development.

DC Schools Project (DCSP) is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program that engages Georgetown students as volunteer and Federal Work Study (FWS)-funded tutors to provide English language tutoring and support for youth and adults of immigrant backgrounds in Washington, DC. The program was established in 1984 in response to the quadrupling of the language minority population in the DC public schools, as a result of the drastic increase in the immigrant population due to the civil war in El Salvador. The program seeks to improve the literacy skills and academic performance to ultimately increase the ability of the youth and adults to fully participate in the cultural, civic, educational, and economic life in US society. Fifteen student coordinators lead DCSP through which approximately 150 Georgetown students a semester have weekly commitments to one of its seven programs.

ESCAPE is a first-year and transfer retreat program designed to create a space for students to get to know their classmates and engage in conversation about the journey of college. Small groups, led by upper class mentors, foster a sense of meaning and belonging throughout the retreat as well as the rest of your Georgetown career.

The retreat is designed as an escape from the Hilltop. ESCAPE is accessible to people of all religious and non-religious backgrounds and reflection is a central part of the retreat experience. There will be talks from upper class team leaders and a faculty or staff member, followed by individual and small group reflection. Students reflect on the person they were before they became Georgetown students and who they want to be as members of the Georgetown community and beyond. There is free time, time away from your everyday tasks, breaks, games, music, and more!

First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement (FOCI) is an intensive pre-orientation program for incoming first-year and transfer students. FOCI serves as an introduction to community service, activism, and social justice issues in Washington, DC. FOCI participants actively engage in community service; discover and reflect on the diverse populations, perspectives, and roles that exist in the Georgetown and greater DC communities; develop leadership skills; and become part of a community committed to personal growth through service and reflection. FOCI activities address a wide variety of social justice issues, including education, sustainability, gentrification, immigration, LGBTQ access, and hunger and homelessness. The week involves lively discussions with Campus Ministry, faculty, student leaders, and DC community members.

Georgetown DC Reads is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program that serves K-5th grade students who are a grade level or more behind in literacy skills. The program began in 1997 as the University's response to the passage of the America Reads Act, a literacy initiative established to improve reading proficiency for all elementary students by engaging college students as volunteer and Federal Work Study-funded tutors. A team of student coordinators lead the program through which 100+ Georgetown students a semester have weekly tutoring commitments East of the River in Washington, DC.

The HOME Program: Homelessness Outreach | Meals | Education coordinates CSJ's multiple homeleness outreach and education efforts in collaboration with community partners, campus partners, and student organizations. The program includes awareness-buildling, advocacy campaigns, and direct service opportunities. All HOME programs aim to promote human dignity and respect for people experiencing homelessness.

The Hoya Hub food pantry is a resource for any member of the Georgetown University community experiencing food insecurity. It is a pantry stocked with non-perishable food items, available to anyone who needs food on an immediate, emergency basis. No Hoya should go hungry; the Hoya Hub is a place to pick up nutritious food to cover short breaks or other unplanned gaps in access to meals.

Each spring, the Center for Multicultural Equity & Access (CMEA) hosts Hoya Saxa Weekend in partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Hoya Saxa Weekend is a chance for underrepresented students of color to experience campus life, meet current students, and have important questions answered before making their college decision. CMEA is excited to bring potential Georgetown students of color to campus in a celebration of what the University has to offer.

Hoya Saxa Weekend is also run in conjunction with the Georgetown Admissions Amabassador Program (GAAP).

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that works with underserved preschool children in schools and community centers. Jumpstart Corps Members (CMs) implement enrichment programming aimed at building the language, literacy, and socio-emotional skills that preschool children need to be ready for kindergarten. Jumpstart members commit 8-12 hours weekly of teaching, preparation, and planning and can be eligible to earn AmeriCorps Segal Awards upon completion of 300 hours with the program.

La Casa Latina is a centralized location of inclusivity in which Latinx students can share their narratives, access resources integral to success on the Hilltop, and engage in vital discussions about the intersectionality of race/ethnicity, class, sexuality, gender, ability, privilege and power within the Latinx identity. As gathering places aimed at fostering community engagement and open dialogue at Georgetown, the Library and the Midnight Mug would like to create a book club open to the entire Georgetown community. Together, Georgetown University's Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement (GRACE), Office of Student Employment, and Center for Social Justice announce a pilot program through which Federal Work Study (FWS)-eligible Georgetown University undergraduate students can intern with DC-based community organizations whose leaders have been recognized by the University's annual John Thompson, Jr. Legacy of a Dream Award.

When supporting a Legacy of a Dream (LoaD) Awardee Organization, LoaD Interns use their skills, time, energy, and capacities to support organization as needed and requested. While actual duties vary with each agency placement, the goal is for each Hoya to contribute to the agency's capacity with their contributions, support, and learning. LoaD interns are expected to be excellent representatives to Georgetown's commitment to social justice and follow all Student Conduct policies, both on and off campus. The Multicultural Graduations are part of the official Georgetown University commencement schedule and are a way to bring students of color together for a final ceremony before graduation. Upon attending, each student will be honored with a stole. There are three ceremonies:

Asian Heritage celebrates the achievements of our Asian American and Pacific Islander graduates and allies of the Georgetown University AAPI community. It aims to recognize the achievements of the graduates, and celebrate the cultures and legacies that shaped their journeys here at the Hilltop.

Harambee is an annual ceremony dedicated to recognizing graduating seniors who identify with communities of the African Diaspora. This ceremony collectively celebrates the individual achievements of students in obtaining college diplomas and honors the community and legacy Black graduating students have created and actively cultivated here at Georgetown.

Despedida is an annual ceremony dedicated to celebrating the cultural diversity and history of the Latinx community and Chicanas/Chicanos at Georgetown University. This unique celebration serves to recognize the completion of a rigorous journey through academia and involvement in various organizations at Georgetown.

The Georgetown University Social Innovation and Public Service (SIPS) Fund is a $1.5 million student-run fund that allocates approximately $60,000 in award money every year to help students and alumni start their own social ventures. The mission of SIPS grows out of the Jesuit tradition of service to others.

Some of the past projects funded by SIPS include funding the Alternative Break Program (ABP), creating a book that offers representation for chronically hospitalized children, and backing a startup which decreased food waste by sustainably creating cold-pressed juices. Through its Summer Scholars program, SIPS has also financed proposals which have done important work such as improving cooking practices in Rwanda by bringing stoves to communities and tracking their usage, introducing a community garden in N.E. DC, and holding a theater workshop in France to help facilitate dialogue between French and refugee people living in Paris. CSJ Student Academic Assistants (SAAs) support social justice, community-engaged, and community-based learning courses, research, and scholarly initiatives taught and led by CSJ-affiliated faculty.
When supporting a course, SAAs complete organizational and logistical tasks to support the course professor, students, and community partners, including but not limited to: entering and organizing course data, sending email and text reminders to students, and professionally communicating with community partners via phone and email. SAAs may also support the academic and reflective components of the course. SAAs are invited to sit-in on at least one class session a week, and can count this time toward their hours.
When supporting faculty research and/or scholarly project, SAAs may complete a range of activities, tasks, and responsibilities depending on the context of the project.
