Alpha Phi Omega (APO) is Georgetown's all-gender service & social justice fraternity supported by the Center for Social Justice. Through our 12-project service program, we participate in direct, impactful, consistent service alongside Washington D.C. community members and each other. We are committed to advancing justice in DC. What makes our service program especially strong is our community: with an extremely active alumni network, a pledging process that requires neither application nor interview, and a commitment to inclusivity, our welcoming and genuine community provides a home to many on the Hilltop.

Dream On 3 is a nonprofit organization that makes sports-themed dreams come true for children and young adults with life-altering conditions. It uses the unifying power of sports and the power of teamwork to bring hope, love, and joy to its dreamers. Dream On 3's core values include servanthood, stewardship, and being a wayfinder. Georgetown Dream Team collaborates with Dream On 3 to bring its mission to life in the DC area. We have already made two dreams come true at Georgetown, and we look forward to continuing our service to the DC community for years to come.

Early Entrepreneurs empowers young girls in underserved communities to explore and pursue entrepreneurship. For many women in these communities, a lack of access to resources and exposure can hinder their ability to jumpstart their own business ventures. Early Entrepreneurs bridges this gap by utilizing experiential learning to provide young girls with the mentorship and fundamental business education required to embark on their passions for business and in turn also nurtures a community of female entrepreneurs through peer-to-peer mentorship.

The Gender Violence Alliance is a community in conversation and a coalition of advocates allied against gender-based violence. GVA works with students, local organizations, and DC shelters to dismantle this social oppression. Our mission is to foster safe dialogue in the undergraduate community regarding the physical, emotional, sexual, familial, and socioeconomic violence perpetrated against gendered minorities.

The Georgetown Coalition for Workers’ Rights (GCWR) was founded after the COVID-19 pandemic as a new iteration of the Georgetown Solidarity Committee (GSC), a student organization devoted to fostering student solidarity with workers on the Georgetown campus and beyond. The purpose of the GCWR is to build a unified working-class movement and create allyship between students and workers to struggle for labor justice at Georgetown and to strengthen the power of labor. The GCWR is committed to amplifying the voices of workers on campus and building relationships between students and workers. The GCWR advocates for collective liberation and operates under an intersectional framework. The GSC was one of the largest organizations known for implementing fair working practices on Georgetown’s campus, and their nationally publicized hunger strike in 2005 compelled the University to adopt the Just Employment Policy, which is now the standard for Georgetown’s equitable labor standards. The GSC disbanded at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and the GCWR emerged in its wake through the Redeploy Georgetown program in 2021.

The mission of Georgetown Students for Prison Justice (formerly known as Prison Outreach) is to integrate educational programming into jails in the DMV area. We believe that the criminal justice system is more punitive than it is rehabilitative, and we see our educational mission as a valuable component of the movement to dismantle unjust systems that perpetuate racism and inequality in the law. We will work within the current system to improve upon it, to acknowledge the humanity and value of incarcerated peoples in our society, and to advocate for reform of the criminal justice system in America

GUMSHOE's mission is to provide remedial instruction and tutoring in math and science to elementary, middle, and high school students within the DC Public School system. Our organization is comprised on undergraduate and graduate students from Georgetown University who have strong a understanding of the topics in which they tutor. Our goal is to foster not only an understanding of, but also an appreciation for math and the sciences in hopes of narrowing the achievement gap that exists in the DC Public School system. Our mission at SweetStrips is to reduce the disparity of type 2 diabetes in D.C. Currently, diabetes affects over 30 million individuals in the United States and over 60,000 in DC alone. Since 1984 we have seen a 384% increase in diagnosis of diabetes, a large part of this increase has been due to changes in our diets and exercise.

SweetStrips hopes to combat this increase by spreading awareness of proper nutrition and exercise. We believe that healthy practices are best formed and retained from an early age. Utilizing a Center for Disease Control guideline for healthy living and diabetes prevention, we have designed a curriculum that incorporates its essential elements into a fun and interactive series of lessons for children in elementary school. We hope to work with your students and together create a healthier future for DC.

GlobeMed is a network of university students that partners with grassroots organizations around the world to improve the health of people living in poverty. GlobeMed has chapters at many universities throughout the United States. GlobeMed at Georgetown has partnered with Primeros Pasos, a clinic in rural Guatemala that serves the local community, for over 10 years. We have weekly meetings to discuss global health issues and fundraise for the clinic throughout the year. In today's pandemic, the inequities in health are evident and we are focused on educating ourselves and advocating for the right to healthcare. Everyone is welcome to join GlobeMed at Georgetown. "Our mission is to empower, prepare, and better equip the community to deal with any situation in which Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Automated External Defibrillator (AED) skills are required." Heroes for Hearts aims to increase the rate of bystander CPR performed by an individual at the scene of a heart attack or stroke, in an effort to save lives. Our motto is, "20 minutes. Let's Save a Life." Taking just 20 minutes out of a single day can provide an individual with the skills, training, and knowledge to potentially save someone's life.

As part of Georgetown's Center for Social Justice, HOPE strives to serve the Georgetown community by facilitating opportunities for student community involvement. Our mission focuses on assisting the sizable community experiencing poverty and homelessness within the District of Columbia, although we currently run and are open to continuing initiatives embracing any aspect of community outreach.
A second component of our mission is to educate the Georgetown Student Body on the issues of poverty and homelessness, both within the District of Columbia and on a larger scale. Through our outreach programs and awareness campaigns, we aspire to share the idea that service to those in our community who are experiencing poverty and homelessness is not only an act of necessity, but an act of humanity and an act of love.ÔÇ®

Hoya Helpers tutors 6th and 7th graders at Hardy Middle School, located across from Safeway on Wisconsin, in both math and English. We offer tutoring every week, five days a week, and each tutor signs up for at least one one-hour shift that recurs weekly. Our large tutoring sessions occur twice a week from 3:30-4:30, and we also provide tutoring throughout the school day. Tutors work one-on-one with struggling students to help them complete their homework and learn basic skills. We do not create lesson plans of our own, but instead supplement and clarify the information they are already learning from their teachers. As these are some of the few remaining years that students have left before 9th grade, we see it as a crucial period in which students have a chance to catch up and get back on track before high school.

Hoya Knits is committed to giving back to the larger DC community through donations of handmade baby and children’s hats that are knit by our very own Georgetown community. This organization provides students with the opportunity to learn knitting skills in a collaborative, low-stress environment and the space to relieve stress and anxiety in a productive and enjoyable manner. These handmade hats are then donated to various hospitals and shelters in the DC area.
