We, the Abolition Advocacy Project (AAP), are law students advocating, empowering local
movements, and educating fellow law students at Georgetown University Law Center to abolish
systemic injustices on which Washington, D.C., and United States legal institutions are built and
perpetuate.
We aim to challenge the status quo, integrate abolitionist aims into our legal education, and
engage with the broader DMV community through coalition building, collaboration, and
grassroots organizing. Our values of anti-racism, justice, and equity guide us. We strive to create
an inclusive and just society where the law makes us all safe and free, regardless of race, gender,
ability, education level, nationality, religion, sexuality, incarceration, socioeconomic or
immigration status, or any other identity marker.

AASV combats sexual violence and rape culture through education, advocacy, and systemic reform. The organization is committed to inclusiveness and recognizes that sexual violence is a communal harm. Students in AASV examine the legal and social underpinning of sexual violence and rape culture, shifting and encouraging discourse around gender roles, coercion, and consent in Georgetown University Law Center and the broader law community.

The purposes of the ACLU of GULC are:

1. To advance discussion of civil liberties on campus.
2. To advocate respect thereof at all levels of government.
3. To support the local chapters of the ACLU however possible.

We defend and promote the protections encompassed in the Bill of Rights of the Federal Constitution, as well as all other rights that protect inhabitants of this country from unnecessarily unjust or invasive government action.

These purposes shall be achieved by sponsoring speakers and debates on timely subjects, and keeping the campus community apprised of government actions that implicate our civil liberties.

The vision of the American Constitution Society is to realize "the promises of the U.S. Constitution by building and leading a diverse legal community that dedicates itself to advancing and defending democracy, justice, equality, and liberty; to securing a government that serves the public interest; and to guarding against the abuse of law and the concentration of power."

The purpose of the Georgetown Armenian Law Students Association shall be to promote Armenian culture and heritage at GULC, to raise awareness of the 1915 Armenian Genocide on our campus, to assist legislative efforts with other Armenian organizations in Washington D.C. for the purposes of furthering global justice and stemming the consequences of persecution against the community, and to create an environment where students of Armenian and non-Armenian background can come together in order to contribute to making Georgetown a more diverse Law Center.

For more than seventy years, the Barristers' Council has been providing students at Georgetown University Law Center with opportunities to hone their advocacy skills. Students who are interested in joining the Council do so through the Appellate Advocacy, Trial Advocacy, and ADR Advocacy divisions, which sponsor a number of intrascholastic competitions every year. Students chosen to join Barristers' Council begin intensive training to represent Georgetown Law at national and international advocacy competitions.

Beyond A Reasonable Stout (BARS) is the only craft beer tasting club at Georgetown Law University Center (GULC). We have historically hosted approximately six free tastings and co-hosted a variety of other events with various student organizations over the course of the year to students of all years, including evening students and LLMs.

Our mission is to provide the following:

(1) A welcoming and informative space. At BARS events, attendees can familiarize themselves with a selection of craft, local, and independent beers. We provide tasting notes and resources to students so that they may be able to develop a sophisticated and worldly palate. Craft beer has increasingly become a part of the young professional culture, and we believe some degree of knowledge and sophistication is personally and professionally beneficial.

(2) A relaxed setting. BARS events provide attendees with the opportunity to meet students outside of the classroom, including evening students and LLMs (every semester we have a substantial minority of LLM attendance at our tastings). We are dedicated to making sure that Georgetown Law students maintain a healthy mental wellbeing by socializing with the greater GULC community. Bringing together diverse students is essential to (a) establishing strong interpersonal connections, (b) allowing 1Ls to seek advice and mentorship from upperclassmen in an informal and stress-free environment, and (c) building a stronger Georgetown Law community.

(3) A safe environment. We are committed to making sure that all attending students (a) are, and feel at all times, safe and within the confines of a familiar on-campus location benefiting from the protective services of the school, (b) are given alcohol in a controlled and responsible environment, and (c) have access to an active community upon which they can rely to ensure and support their safety and wellbeing. We know that students will face extensive exposure to alcohol throughout their studies and careers, and believe fostering a healthy relationship with alcohol, and a peer support system, is a positive step in preventing substance abuse problems.

The purposes of BLSA shall be the following:
1. To ascertain and to effectuate the needs and goals of the Black law student at Georgetown University Law Center;
2. To foster and develop a culture of robust achievement;
3. To promote and embolden an attitude of professional competence;
4. To establish and maintain a community of support and encouragement;
5. To promote a greater representation of Black law students in all pertinent spheres of activity within Georgetown University Law Center including, but not limited to, the Student Bar Association, Standing Committees, Clinical Programs, Law Review, Law Journals, and Barristers' Council;
6. To use our position as Black law students at Georgetown University Law Center to increase the recruitment and retention of Black law students at our institution;
7. To encourage and increase the recruitment and retention of adjunct, tenure-track and tenured Black professors at Georgetown University Law Center.
8. To influence the Georgetown University Law Center to use its legal expertise and prestige to effectively bring about changes within the legal system responsive to needs of the Black community;
9. To focus on the relationship of the Black attorney to the American legal structure; to instill a greater awareness in Black attorneys and law students of the needs of the Black Community and to encourage a greater commitment towards meeting those needs;
10. To use our legal training to focus on the social, economic, political, and legal issues in the Black community; and
11. To do anything necessary and proper to accomplish the aforementioned purposes.

The purposes of Business and Human Rights at Georgetown are:
1.) To broaden awareness for and amplify issues within the business and human rights (BHR) field on the Georgetown campus.
2.) To provide a centralized hub for students to engage with and learn about curricular and experiential BHR opportunities on the Georgetown campus, including by connecting students with professors, clinical instructors, and practitioners associated with the law school.

CLS exists to provide opportunities for students to fellowship with one another through prayer and worship, dedicate time to understanding the role of Christian law students in serving and advocating for the most vulnerable members of society (e.g., racial minorities, low-income communities, families affected by COVID-19, etc.), and address significant cultural and political issues through biblical study. To fulfill our mission, we want (1) to partner with churches and community organizations in the DC-MD-VA to provide food and resources for families and individuals in need; (2) to host weekly Bible studies centered around justice and putting faith in action; and (3) to invite Christian leaders and attorneys to engage with us around issues of the law, politics, and culture.

The purpose of the Corporate Crime & Anti-Corruption Law Students Association
(CCAC) is to create a forum for students to pursue their interests in the field of
corporate crime and anti-corruption. CCAC’s vision is to create opportunities for

The Georgetown Green Campus Alliance (GGCA) is dedicated to promoting sustainable, environmentally-friendly initiatives on the Georgetown Law campus. GGCA seeks to educate and mobilize students of Georgetown Law to maximize the presence of usable green space on-campus and create community through two starter initiatives: 1) Campus Garden Initiative, and 2) Gewirz Compost Project. The Campus Garden Initiative offers students and community members a place to learn about organic food systems, providing service opportunities in sustainable gardening, food distribution, and community outreach. The Gewirz Compost Project seeks to promote sustainable waste practices through the installment of a composting program at the Gewirz Student Center. Through these initiatives, as well as our panel events, our hope is to raise awareness through education and promote advocacy.

Georgetown Law Advocates for Life (AFL) in affiliation with Americans United for Life advances and educates about the dignity of all human life, especially the unborn. The Georgetown Law Softball Club (The Softball Club) is a student-led group with nearly 100 members that get together to play softball and engage in recreation outside of the classroom at the Georgetown University Law Center. The Softball Club welcomes students of all ability-levels taking courses at Georgetown Law including full-time JD, part-time JD, LLM, and graduate level students. Its mission is to provide a community to all of its members.

The Softball Club provides a valuable opportunity for students to decompress and meet fellow students outside of the academic setting. The Softball Club also equips students with experiences and skills that will help them feel comfortable participating in softball outings with their future employers. Softball is common among law firms, government agencies, non-profits, and even chambers, and can help students build relationships with their co-workers that go beyond the office.

Georgetown Entertainment and Media Alliance, Law Division (GEMALaw) exists to bring entertainment, media, sports, and new technology law information and speakers to the Georgetown Law community. The entertainment sphere is an exciting and rapidly growing legal field constantly transformed by new technology and advancements. While many are familiar with film, tv, music, sports, and video games from the layman perspective, the legal careers they represent are often unknown and confusing for law students. GEMALaw exists to teach students about this field and introduce them to practitioners. Through our annual Spring GEMA Symposium, as well as monthly speaker events and panels, GEMA hopes students will be able to learn more about the legal issues surrounding this exciting industry. Entertainment law intersects many other areas of the law from intellectual property and free speech concerns to the right of publicity, information privacy, employment and labor law, and more.
Symposium topics cover hot button issues of the day and have included in the past the Music Modernization Act, compensation of NCAA collegiate athletes, facial recognition and data privacy, and working with producers and talent in the music industry. While students are able to learn some of these topics in the classroom, GEMA brings concrete career path information, as well as our widespread alumni network, directly to the Law Center in order to increase engagement and interest in this exciting workspace. By counseling 1Ls and those looking for work in the industry, we hope to help law students become more comfortable with the terminology and business models of the entertainment law world. We aim to open up the diverse array of in-house careers within the Entertainment framework to our members. Additionally, we hope to educate and excite students looking to learn more about the area while building a community of those with like-minded interests who want to explore what entertainment law has to offer.

The Georgetown Plaintiffs’ Law Association (GPLA) is driven by a shared desire to foster interest in plaintiff-side litigation and introduce students to a rapidly-growing alternative to the traditional public-interest and “Big Law” career paths. Home Court is an annual charity basketball event run by Georgetown Law students for the past 38 years. As of 2024, the game has raised over $12 million for the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless. Historically, the game has been a friendly competition between Congressmen/women and Georgetown Law faculty and students. However, last year saw a big change to the annual game. Georgetown Law faced off against our rival, GW Law, and won 73 to 54 in a competitive match that raised over $12,000 for the Clinic. We are excited to keep up the momentum this year!

The Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless was founded in 1987 to break down barriers to access to justice for people struggling with homelessness in the nation's capital. We envision a just and inclusive community for all residents of the District of Columbia, where housing is a human right and where every individual and family has equal access to the resources they need to thrive.

ILSA believes that the political, civil, social, economic, and human rights of all international (im)migrants should be protected, regardless of the impetus for their movement, whether for humanitarian protection, economic reasons, family reunification, climate-driven relocation, or any other reason(s). Individuals can be (im)migrants regardless of whether their migration is temporary or permanent, lawful or unlawful, and voluntary or forced. ILSA envisions a world in which the human rights of all people who cross borders are respected and safeguarded.

The purpose of ILSA is to advocate for the protection of (im)migrants' human rights by promoting immigration laws and policies grounded in dignity and respect. ILSA recognizes that establishing (im)migrant-centered immigration laws and policies requires an intersectional approach that considers the disparate effects of race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation and identity, class, and membership in a particular social group on the obstacles faced by (im)migrants. The main goal of ILSA is to pursue this vision and purpose through work at the local, regional, national, and international levels. ILSA focuses primarily on education and professional development, advocacy, and community outreach.

ILSA educates law students about (im)migration laws, government practices, policy advocacy, (im)migrant justice issues, and careers in immigration law. ILSA invites attorneys, legislators, organizers, and advocates to engage with Georgetown University Law Center ("GULC") students in conversations about (im)migration policies and patterns, public interest immigration law careers, current developments in U.S. immigration law, and more. ILSA members will be able to utilize the information from these events and programs to better inform their future roles within the immigration law field. Such education and training programs enable ILSA to enhance the GULC community's understanding and use of legal norms designed to protect (im)migrants, as well as progressive developments in law and practice.

ILSA engages in advocacy efforts to change the U.S. immigration legal system, promote (im)migrant justice, and help law students develop meaningful advocacy skills. ILSA collaborates with other GULC student organizations, nonprofit organizations, and community members in pursuit of advocacy opportunities that advance ILSA values, principles, and standards at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Promoting (im)migrant justice principles with lawmakers and in areas of thematic normative development can serve to solidify the breadth of legal norms protecting the rights of all (im)migrants.

Community outreach is vital to promoting and protecting (im)migrants' rights. ILSA works closely with local organizations and larger coalitions in support of efforts aimed to increase (im)migrants' access to justice. ILSA members volunteer at citizenship clinics, DACA renewal clinics, policy advocacy civil actions, and other public interest community-led activities. ILSA members also attend educational events hosted by local and national immigration law organizations.

The International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP) organizes law students and lawyers to develop and enforce a set of legal and human rights for refugees and displaced persons. Guided by the Jewish value B’tzelem Elohim, or literally in the image of G-d, we form this group to create a space for Jewish students to build community and advocate for peace, justice, and human rights.

We establish this group in the shadow of the horrific violence of the last month. Not only do we
recognize the violence on October 7, 2023 in which 1,400 Israeli citizens were killed and a further
approximately 200 were taken hostage by Hamas, but we also stand firmly opposed to the
subsequent devastation and ongoing bombing campaign and ground invasion carried out by Israel against Gaza, which has, to date, killed approximately 10,000 Palestinians, more than 4,000 of them children. These numbers are overwhelming, and the human stories within them even more so. Many of us have been struck by grief over the past month—and have struggled between our grief and apprehension. Apprehension for a rise in antisemitic and Islamophobic hate crimes, as groups tracking hate report a tripling in rates of both forms of hatred. Apprehension for political discourse that makes pawns of our grief and that of our community by weaponizing anger and fear.

Apprehension of a climate in which groups seek to exploit Jewish experience for political, narrative, or military gain, or co-opt Palestinian activism to spread antisemitism.
It has been inspiring to see the solidarity that has cut through these toxic discourses and flashes of hate. Jewish leaders and groups, from the families of hostages to Jews across the diaspora, have joined calls for a humanitarian ceasefire and Palestinian self-determination. Pro-Palestine activists repeatedly reject anti-Jewish infiltrators at rallies and make that rejection an integrated element of their advocacy for justice in Palestine.

Inspired by these activists for peace and our own Judaism, we form this organization to advocate for “a positive peace which is the presence of justice.” Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Letter from
Birmingham Jail (1963). In doing so, we answer the call to Jews; tzedek, tzedek tirdof—justice, justice you shall pursue, and respond to the questions of Hillel the Elder; “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” We advocate for ourselves to thrive and build community as Jews. We advocate for our friends, neighbors, and all people in the world to have their human rights and right to engage in self-determination honored. We do so now. We believe that we are strongest as individuals when we share in community with each other. We invite all Jewish and non-Jewish members of the Georgetown community, within and beyond the Law Center, to join us as we explore how our Judaism shapes our interaction with movements for justice and advocate for a positive and universal peace.

Nationally, Students for Justice in Palestine's work is centered on freedom, justice, and equality for the Palestinian people, particularly as it pertains to Israeli occupation. SJP Nationals believes that all struggles for freedom, justice, and equality are interconnected and that we must embody the principles and ideals we envision for a just society.
There are more than 200 chapters at undergraduate and graduate campuses around the country, and Georgetown Law had an active chapter until a few years ago. In an effort to revive Georgetown Law's chapter, we have been engaging in informal conversations with students and active student organizations and have identified a clear need for a Students for Justice in Palestine group to be brought back to our campus. Our peers are interested in learning more about the Israeli occupation and what the current conflict means for Palestinians, Israelis, and all people invested or interested in facilitating conflict resolution, and liberation and justice for all. A Georgetown Law SJP chapter would align well with Georgetown Law's commitment to international human rights, equal justice, and diverse viewpoints.
We hope to be able to host informational events that will allow students and members of the GULC community to learn more about the history of occupation as well as the contemporary realities of Palestinian people. We also hope to provide a forum for interested students to discuss with one another, and with those whose experiences and perspectives differ from ours, approaches to better understanding and organizing around Israeli occupation.
While SJP has sometimes been misconstrued as a divisive or polarizing group, our hope is that official group recognition will allow us to facilitate meaningful dialogue across identity groups and ideological allegiances. As law students, we also feel that providing a space for this group would speak to the necessity of upholding our community's commitment to freedom of speech and expression, and to a diversity of viewpoints and ideas. We believe that Israeli occupation harms the human rights and dignity of Palestinians and Israelis alike, and we hope to be able to work together and with peer chapters toward understandings and solutions that consider and value the lives, rights, and freedom of all people.
