Georgetown's Department of Performing Arts (DPA) integrates creative and critical inquiry, emphasizing artistic excellence, interdisciplinary learning, socially engaged performance, and the spirit of collaboration. The department is home to the College's undergraduate degree programs in American Musical Culture and Theater & Performance Studies with dozens of performing groups in all aspects of the performing arts (music, theater, dance and film). We administer a wide range of activities—from teaching critical and creative courses to scheduling the use of practice rooms and mentoring participation in student organizations. DPA also sponsors the professional Friday Music concert series in McNeir Hall and hosts a full season of Theater in the state-of-the-art Davis Performing Arts Center.

The Music Program at Georgetown is distinctive for its emphasis on the study of the performing arts as both a creative activity within contemporary society and a cultural manifestation of multiculturalism in the American World. The program offers courses in music history, criticism, theory, recording arts, film, social justice and performance. We specialize in all forms of music associated with American Culture, including: jazz, rock, dance, film, popular musics from around the world, and music stemming from the Western European Tradition. Through this broad range of course offerings and numerous opportunities for community-building music performing activities the Music Program clearly reflects the intellectual, multicultural and international character of the liberal arts as Georgetown.

The Theater & Performance Studies Program at Georgetown has attracted significant attention for its unique curriculum (reflecting the political and international character of Georgetown), its commitment to social justice, its focus on adapting, devising and developing new work, and its cutting-edge student productions. The program encourages interdisciplinary learning about culture, politics and identity through the lens of performance research, community-based performance, play analysis and playwriting, stage direction, cross-cultural ensemble, solo performance, dramaturgy, design and multimedia production, and world theater history.

Health Education Services (HES) is the primary campus provider of health education, and seeks to promote the health and well being of all students through care for the WHOLE Hoya: body, mind, and soul. HES has a mission of helping students feel empowered around their health and wellness.

Membership Benefits
HES offers consultation, networking, and advocacy for primary prevention, risk reduction, and disease prevention. We also provide confidential assessment, treatment, and/or referrals for students experiencing problems with substance abuse, eating disorders, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, pregnancy, and health. We also connect students to other campus health professionals and members of the community at large.

HES provides regular educational outreach and consultation to students and others within the University. We often serve as the first point of contact for students who have problems but are not sure what to do or where to go. Students do not need a referral to seek services from a health professional in our office, and we do not charge for services.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resource Center provides education, programming, support services, and voice to Georgetown students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We are committed to understanding sexual orientation and gender identity in the context of and as it intersects with race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, ability, socio-economic status, and culture. The Center works toward a holistic understanding of LGBTQ communities; it takes leadership in providing and supporting a broad array of services, programs and resources to the campus community. Inspired by the Catholic and Jesuit principles of respect for the dignity of all, cura personalis, equality, and education of the whole person, the Center seeks to establish a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQ community members and promote better understanding and integration with the entire campus community.

The LGBTQ Resource Center, serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals, is the first such Center of its kind at a Catholic/Jesuit institution in the country. We have sought to build on the rich interfaith and intellectual engagements of Georgetown to create a Center that will speak to all of us in all of our rich diversity. Our work focuses on four key areas:

Community Building: We are stronger when we come together. We seek to not only gather people together, but to build strong relationships marked by justice. Together, we can influence culture on the Hilltop.

Education & Outreach: We provide trainings and workshops for faculty, staff, and students. We are happy to partner with your organization to help you think through how gender functions in your organization. We offer programs and events in collaboration with student groups, academic units, and other campus partnersHealth and Wellness.

Support in navigating academic and student life: Staff are available to talk with students about anything and everything. We can connect you with resources, or help you think through topics like what you want to major in, how things are going with your roommates, whether you want to study abroad, how to navigate conflict with a friend, and all of the other things that come with student life.
Student Engagement and Leadership Development: We offer programs that help students cultivate and develop their leadership skills and unique strengths. These include lectures, discussions, and retreats. Our student staff are ambassadors of the LGBTQ Center. They lead their peers in conversation and events.

Health and Wellness: We work individually with students to help students address challenges and flourish at Georgetown. As a semi-confidential Title IX reporting space, we also help students in crisis situations. A semi-confidential space means that son-identifying information about an incident of sexual assault will be shared with a Title IX Coordinator; you will not be contacted by a Title IX Coordinator. Additionally, we are here to help you navigate the University Bias Reporting system for incidents inside and outside of the classroom. We can connect you with resources on and off-campus.

Advocacy and Empowerment: We challenge oppressive ideologies and encourage a holistic approach to community building and education.
Alumni Engagement: We cultivate a community of Hoyas supporting Hoyas. In the LGBTQ Center, we can connect you with alumni in roles of professional networking and mentoring.

Our office serves to support the opportunities of military members accessing higher education to ensure a campus culture that cares for the entire spectrum of military-connected students. The mission of our services is to instill the Jesuit spirit of cura personalis into everyday connections among the military-connected community.

The University recognized the need for dedicated support services to serve as a base of information and services to prospective, current, and alumni military-connected students and out of that recognition, the Veterans Office was established in 2011. The leadership of military-connected students, faculty, and administrators have worked diligently to create a campus culture to assist navigating the complexities of the education benefits, transitioning to a new academic environment, adjusting to Washington D.C. or virtual learning, establishing relationships with other military-connected students on campus, and connecting with career opportunities while enrolled and post-graduation.

Georgetown University's Veterans Office serves military-connected students as they apply to, attend and advance beyond Georgetown. The Hilltop is home to close to 1,400 military-connected students including servicemembers, veterans, and military families. The Veterans Office connects military-connected students with the resources they need to successfully transition from military service to classroom to career. Our office serves as a liaison and advisor to ensure prospective and current military students receive accurate and comprehensive information around admissions, finances, academic support, career networking, and support services.

The Office of Student Conduct serves as a resource to the entire University community. The Office of Student Conduct is commissioned with the task of detailing the rights and responsibilities of students, adjudicating disciplinary matters and, when necessary, imposing sanctions for violations in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.

The Office of Student Life (OSL) currently oversees Orientation and the Peer Advisor program in the fall and advises on Commencement in the spring. OSL also advises all the Law Center student organizations on events, budgets, and logistics. The OSL staff would be happy to connect with you!
