The After School Kids (ASK) Program serves at-potential teens in the DC metropolitan area who are making positive strides in their lives and to be catalysts for change in their community. Our youth are adversely impacted by the cradle-to-prison pipeline and may experience obstacles to obtaining their high school diploma, exploring careers, or advancing their postsecondary education. It is not uncommon for our youth to experience chronic trauma exposure, involvement in the court system, and to be over-aged and under-credited. Despite obstacles, our youth envision a brighter future through education, social action, and wellness. ASK provides programming and support to help them realize their vision.

The Advisory Board for Student Organizations (ABSO) is an advisory and funding board of the Center for Social Justice that works to support the missions of student organizations under the CSJ's purview. The board is composed of 10-16 students with a staff ex-officio advisor. ABSO oversees, facilitates, and provides resources to student-run social justice service activities, student advocacy, and community involvement activities at Georgetown. ABSO is responsible for advising student organization leaders on programming and budgeting, and serves as a resource for understanding university policy. ABSO also reviews and approves budgets for CSJ student groups each year.

The Operations Team supports CSJ EngageDCorps programs, student organizations, community-based learning courses, engaged research, and racial justice work through "behind-the-scenes" infrastructure and logistics. Members of the Center Operations Team will work closely with CSJ professional staff in necessary administrative and financial work, training and compliance, and other operations. DC Schools Project (DCSP) is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program that engages Georgetown students as volunteer and Federal Work Study (FWS)-funded tutors to provide English language tutoring and support for youth and adults of immigrant backgrounds in Washington, DC. The program was established in 1984 in response to the quadrupling of the language minority population in the DC public schools, as a result of the drastic increase in the immigrant population due to the civil war in El Salvador. The program seeks to improve the literacy skills and academic performance to ultimately increase the ability of the youth and adults to fully participate in the cultural, civic, educational, and economic life in US society. Fifteen student coordinators lead DCSP through which approximately 150 Georgetown students a semester have weekly commitments to one of its seven programs.

Early Entrepreneurs empowers young girls in underserved communities to explore and pursue entrepreneurship. For many women in these communities, a lack of access to resources and exposure can hinder their ability to jumpstart their own business ventures. Early Entrepreneurs bridges this gap by utilizing experiential learning to provide young girls with the mentorship and fundamental business education required to embark on their passions for business and in turn also nurtures a community of female entrepreneurs through peer-to-peer mentorship.

First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement (FOCI) is an intensive pre-orientation program for incoming first-year and transfer students. FOCI serves as an introduction to community service, activism, and social justice issues in Washington, DC. FOCI participants actively engage in community service; discover and reflect on the diverse populations, perspectives, and roles that exist in the Georgetown and greater DC communities; develop leadership skills; and become part of a community committed to personal growth through service and reflection. FOCI activities address a wide variety of social justice issues, including education, sustainability, gentrification, immigration, LGBTQ access, and hunger and homelessness. The week involves lively discussions with Campus Ministry, faculty, student leaders, and DC community members.

The Georgetown Coalition for Workers’ Rights (GCWR) was founded after the COVID-19 pandemic as a new iteration of the Georgetown Solidarity Committee (GSC), a student organization devoted to fostering student solidarity with workers on the Georgetown campus and beyond. The purpose of the GCWR is to build a unified working-class movement and create allyship between students and workers to struggle for labor justice at Georgetown and to strengthen the power of labor. The GCWR is committed to amplifying the voices of workers on campus and building relationships between students and workers. The GCWR advocates for collective liberation and operates under an intersectional framework. The GSC was one of the largest organizations known for implementing fair working practices on Georgetown’s campus, and their nationally publicized hunger strike in 2005 compelled the University to adopt the Just Employment Policy, which is now the standard for Georgetown’s equitable labor standards. The GSC disbanded at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and the GCWR emerged in its wake through the Redeploy Georgetown program in 2021.

Georgetown DC Reads is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program that serves K-5th grade students who are a grade level or more behind in literacy skills. The program began in 1997 as the University's response to the passage of the America Reads Act, a literacy initiative established to improve reading proficiency for all elementary students by engaging college students as volunteer and Federal Work Study-funded tutors. A team of student coordinators lead the program through which 100+ Georgetown students a semester have weekly tutoring commitments East of the River in Washington, DC.

Georgetown Renewable Energy and Environmental Network (GREEN) is the largest environmental student organization at Georgetown. We strive to promote the conservation, protection, and preservation of the environment through education, advocacy, volunteer work, and on-campus programs that engage students in being women and men for others and for the environment. Our goal is to create positive environmental impacts through active participation, so to benefit both Georgetown University and the community at large. We plan to achieve these goals by: promoting a clear understanding of humanity's dependence on and responsibilities to its environment; working to directly improve the environment through volunteer work; providing a forum for students interested in actively pursuing environmental goals; and encouraging advocacy through communication with our representatives via a series of venues. Our club has a number of teams devoted to different environmental issues (from environmental justice to gardening to energy and water consumption). The mission of Georgetown Students for Prison Justice (formerly known as Prison Outreach) is to integrate educational programming into jails in the DMV area. We believe that the criminal justice system is more punitive than it is rehabilitative, and we see our educational mission as a valuable component of the movement to dismantle unjust systems that perpetuate racism and inequality in the law. We will work within the current system to improve upon it, to acknowledge the humanity and value of incarcerated peoples in our society, and to advocate for reform of the criminal justice system in America

The Georgetown University Armed Forces Association works to foster a greater sense of community among Georgetown ROTC cadets, the Georgetown military community, and the Georgetown student body. Additionally, GUAFA works to introduce students to military culture and challenge assumptions and/or stereotypes students may have in regards to the military. To accomplish this, GUAFA invites students to Army ROTC morning workouts, encourages members to participate in various GUAFA service events, and brings in unique speakers with military experience via our connection to the Hoya Battalion. GUAFA also serves as a support structure for any student who would like to serve in the armed forces, especially if they would like to serve through ROTC or Officer Candidate School. For those who consider the military a possible career path, GUAFA offers one-on-one mentorship to answer any questions students may have about a military career and help them through the joining process. GUAFA is open to all students with an appreciation for public service or service in any capacity so that its members can actively promote Georgetown's Jesuit Values in conjunction with the Army values for Hoyas past, present, and future.

GU Children's Theater is dedicated to the fulfillment of the following three missions:

• Entertaining and educating DC-Area youth, through performances at area schools, hospitals, and other community venues.

Our mission at SweetStrips is to reduce the disparity of type 2 diabetes in D.C. Currently, diabetes affects over 30 million individuals in the United States and over 60,000 in DC alone. Since 1984 we have seen a 384% increase in diagnosis of diabetes, a large part of this increase has been due to changes in our diets and exercise.

SweetStrips hopes to combat this increase by spreading awareness of proper nutrition and exercise. We believe that healthy practices are best formed and retained from an early age. Utilizing a Center for Disease Control guideline for healthy living and diabetes prevention, we have designed a curriculum that incorporates its essential elements into a fun and interactive series of lessons for children in elementary school. We hope to work with your students and together create a healthier future for DC.

GlobeMed is a network of university students that partners with grassroots organizations around the world to improve the health of people living in poverty. GlobeMed has chapters at many universities throughout the United States. GlobeMed at Georgetown has partnered with Primeros Pasos, a clinic in rural Guatemala that serves the local community, for over 10 years. We have weekly meetings to discuss global health issues and fundraise for the clinic throughout the year. In today's pandemic, the inequities in health are evident and we are focused on educating ourselves and advocating for the right to healthcare. Everyone is welcome to join GlobeMed at Georgetown. Hoya Taxa is a student volunteer organization that promotes financial literacy and assists lower-income D.C. families with their taxes. Each year, club members are trained to receive IRS certification as volunteer tax preparers, then travel to clinics in the D.C. area to help clients file their tax returns. Hoya Taxa, which operates through the Center for Social Justice, is partnered with Community Tax Aid D.C., the non-profit that operates these tax clinics and offers free income tax preparation services.

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that works with underserved preschool children in schools and community centers. Jumpstart Corps Members (CMs) implement enrichment programming aimed at building the language, literacy, and socio-emotional skills that preschool children need to be ready for kindergarten. Jumpstart members commit 8-12 hours weekly of teaching, preparation, and planning and can be eligible to earn AmeriCorps Segal Awards upon completion of 300 hours with the program.

Members of Justice and Diversity in Action (JDA) strive to create and sustain an environment that supports each other's work for social change and commitment to grow in knowledge of human diversity in all its aspects. Together, we seek to be open, honest, and sensitive in examining attitudes, prejudices, and actions that undermine respect for diversity and perpetuate injustice, as these arise both within and beyond the Georgetown University community.

We advocate for justice, as individuals and as a group. Our members come from all schools in the University; often there is good mix of international students as well as those who hail from the United States. Programming aims to grant residents the opportunity to learn more about prevalent social justice issues through both dialogue and engagement within the community; calling residents to be both open-minded and creative.

When supporting a Legacy of a Dream (LoaD) Awardee Organization, LoaD Interns use their skills, time, energy, and capacities to support organization as needed and requested. While actual duties vary with each agency placement, the goal is for each Hoya to contribute to the agency's capacity with their contributions, support, and learning. LoaD interns are expected to be excellent representatives to Georgetown's commitment to social justice and follow all Student Conduct policies, both on and off campus. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resource Center provides education, programming, support services, and voice to Georgetown students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We are committed to understanding sexual orientation and gender identity in the context of and as it intersects with race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, ability, socio-economic status, and culture. These include lectures, discussions, and retreats. Our student staff are ambassadors of the LGBTQ Center. They lead their peers in conversation and events.

Health and Wellness: We work individually with students to help students address challenges and flourish at Georgetown. As a semi-confidential Title IX reporting space, we also help students in crisis situations. A semi-confidential space means that son-identifying information about an incident of sexual assault will be shared with a Title IX Coordinator; you will not be contacted by a Title IX Coordinator. Additionally, we are here to help you navigate the University Bias Reporting system for incidents inside and outside of the classroom. We can connect you with resources on and off-campus.

Advocacy and Empowerment: We challenge oppressive ideologies and encourage a holistic approach to community building and education.

Our mission as a chapter on the Georgetown campus is to improve and celebrate menstrual hygiene through advocacy and service. Through advocacy, our mission is to promote menstrual hygiene as a right, and to challenge the stigma surrounding the topic of periods. In addition, we hope to educate and spread awareness about issues surrounding feminine hygiene through conversations and campaigns. Lastly, through service, our mission is to distribute menstrual hygiene products to women and girls in need in the DC area. Project Sunshine Georgetown provides free recreational, educational and social service programming to children facing medical challenges and their families. Our volunteers donate their time to create and deliver programs to pediatric patients at the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. The SFSAC is the elected representative organization of the SFS undergraduate population. As advocates for the SFS student body, the SFSAC collaborates with the Dean's Office, the Georgetown University Student Association, and the other academic councils to address issues pertaining to academic affairs, the student body in the SFS, and other initiatives developed to enhance the undergraduate experience. Additionally, the SFSAC enjoys membership on the SFS Curriculum Committee and the Georgetown University Inter-School Academic Council.

The committees of the SFSAC include Special Events, Communications, Advancement, Diplomatic Ball Planning, and Centennial. Through these committees, the SFSAC sponsors several events throughout the academic year, including the Diplomatic Ball, Trick or Treat on Embassy Row, and the Student-Faculty Banquet.

Slow Food aims to broaden the Georgetown student body's awareness of the importance of universal access to food that is good, clean, and fair. To us, good food is made with love and the intent to build community and bring sustenance; clean food is produced with respect for the environment and the health of those who consume it; and fair food is recognized as the result of the labor of many who deserve just compensation and equal access to food themselves, and recognizing and standing up to the violence that often accompanies food production. We seek to create a space on campus for students to come together to cultivate a better food system on campus and beyond.

Slow Food Georgetown acknowledges the vast inequities built into our food systems, and we seek to change that by 1) educating students about their food; 2) working on and off campus to reduce these inequities; and 3) empowering students to change the food system. As an official Slow Food USA chapter, we work within their Manifesto for Equity, Inclusion and Justice.

Our mission is to organize accessible swim instruction specifically designed for children with special needs in the greater DC community. The swim lessons aim to prevent accidental drowning, which is among the leading causes of death for children with intellectual disabilities. In addition to promoting water safety, SNUGS at Georgetown will create an inclusive social environment for the children and allow them to build meaningful relationships.

Our greater objectives are to cultivate awareness of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and to mitigate them through engagement and education in order to advance social justice.

The Georgetown University Social Innovation and Public Service (SIPS) Fund is a $1.5 million student-run fund that allocates approximately $60,000 in award money every year to help students and alumni start their own social ventures. The mission of SIPS grows out of the Jesuit tradition of service to others.

Some of the past projects funded by SIPS include funding the Alternative Break Program (ABP), creating a book that offers representation for chronically hospitalized children, and backing a startup which decreased food waste by sustainably creating cold-pressed juices. Through its Summer Scholars program, SIPS has also financed proposals which have done important work such as improving cooking practices in Rwanda by bringing stoves to communities and tracking their usage, introducing a community garden in N.E. DC, and holding a theater workshop in France to help facilitate dialogue between French and refugee people living in Paris. CSJ Student Academic Assistants (SAAs) support social justice, community-engaged, and community-based learning courses, research, and scholarly initiatives taught and led by CSJ-affiliated faculty.
When supporting a course, SAAs complete organizational and logistical tasks to support the course professor, students, and community partners, including but not limited to: entering and organizing course data, sending email and text reminders to students, and professionally communicating with community partners via phone and email. SAAs may also support the academic and reflective components of the course. SAAs are invited to sit-in on at least one class session a week, and can count this time toward their hours.
When supporting faculty research and/or scholarly project, SAAs may complete a range of activities, tasks, and responsibilities depending on the context of the project.
