The After School Kids (ASK) Program serves at-potential teens in the DC metropolitan area who are making positive strides in their lives and to be catalysts for change in their community. Our youth are adversely impacted by the cradle-to-prison pipeline and may experience obstacles to obtaining their high school diploma, exploring careers, or advancing their postsecondary education. It is not uncommon for our youth to experience chronic trauma exposure, involvement in the court system, and to be over-aged and under-credited. Despite obstacles, our youth envision a brighter future through education, social action, and wellness. ASK provides programming and support to help them realize their vision.

The Georgetown College Academic Council is comprised of elected representatives from each class who foster a working relationship between administration, students, and faculty in order to help students manage and enhance their academic lives. The Council interacts with College faculty and administration regarding a wide variety of issues. The College Academic Council represents the students of Georgetown College, seeks their opinion on academic issues, and acts in their name. It has helped to develop stronger student-professor relations through the Majors Mentors Network, Dean-Student lunches, the annual College Honors, and the College Majors Fair. DC Schools Project (DCSP) is a tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy program that engages Georgetown students as volunteer and Federal Work Study (FWS)-funded tutors to provide English language tutoring and support for youth and adults of immigrant backgrounds in Washington, DC. The program was established in 1984 in response to the quadrupling of the language minority population in the DC public schools, as a result of the drastic increase in the immigrant population due to the civil war in El Salvador. The program seeks to improve the literacy skills and academic performance to ultimately increase the ability of the youth and adults to fully participate in the cultural, civic, educational, and economic life in US society. Fifteen student coordinators lead DCSP through which approximately 150 Georgetown students a semester have weekly commitments to one of its seven programs.

First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement (FOCI) is an intensive pre-orientation program for incoming first-year and transfer students. FOCI serves as an introduction to community service, activism, and social justice issues in Washington, DC. FOCI participants actively engage in community service; discover and reflect on the diverse populations, perspectives, and roles that exist in the Georgetown and greater DC communities; develop leadership skills; and become part of a community committed to personal growth through service and reflection. FOCI activities address a wide variety of social justice issues, including education, sustainability, gentrification, immigration, LGBTQ access, and hunger and homelessness. The week involves lively discussions with Campus Ministry, faculty, student leaders, and DC community members.

Georgetown Renewable Energy and Environmental Network (GREEN) is the largest environmental student organization at Georgetown. We strive to promote the conservation, protection, and preservation of the environment through education, advocacy, volunteer work, and on-campus programs that engage students in being women and men for others and for the environment. Our goal is to create positive environmental impacts through active participation, so to benefit both Georgetown University and the community at large. We plan to achieve these goals by: promoting a clear understanding of humanity's dependence on and responsibilities to its environment; working to directly improve the environment through volunteer work; providing a forum for students interested in actively pursuing environmental goals; and encouraging advocacy through communication with our representatives via a series of venues. Our club has a number of teams devoted to different environmental issues (from environmental justice to gardening to energy and water consumption). Our mission at SweetStrips is to reduce the disparity of type 2 diabetes in D.C. Currently, diabetes affects over 30 million individuals in the United States and over 60,000 in DC alone. Since 1984 we have seen a 384% increase in diagnosis of diabetes, a large part of this increase has been due to changes in our diets and exercise.

SweetStrips hopes to combat this increase by spreading awareness of proper nutrition and exercise. We believe that healthy practices are best formed and retained from an early age. Utilizing a Center for Disease Control guideline for healthy living and diabetes prevention, we have designed a curriculum that incorporates its essential elements into a fun and interactive series of lessons for children in elementary school. We hope to work with your students and together create a healthier future for DC.

GlobeMed is a network of university students that partners with grassroots organizations around the world to improve the health of people living in poverty. GlobeMed has chapters at many universities throughout the United States. GlobeMed at Georgetown has partnered with Primeros Pasos, a clinic in rural Guatemala that serves the local community, for over 10 years. We have weekly meetings to discuss global health issues and fundraise for the clinic throughout the year. In today's pandemic, the inequities in health are evident and we are focused on educating ourselves and advocating for the right to healthcare. Everyone is welcome to join GlobeMed at Georgetown. Duties and Responsibilities include:
A. To support the growth and development of campus media.
B. To hear the concerns and challenges of campus media organizations and to actively work to address and improve them.
C. To implement advertising standards and guidelines.
D. To review and approve budgets, major expenditures or borrowing.
E. To uphold and protect the rights of freedom of the press and freedom of speech of editors and managers. Editors and managers are solely responsible for the content or policies or broadcast. The Board has no authority to censor the contents or editorial position of any organization.

Jumpstart is a national early education organization that works with underserved preschool children in schools and community centers. Jumpstart Corps Members (CMs) implement enrichment programming aimed at building the language, literacy, and socio-emotional skills that preschool children need to be ready for kindergarten. Jumpstart members commit 8-12 hours weekly of teaching, preparation, and planning and can be eligible to earn AmeriCorps Segal Awards upon completion of 300 hours with the program.

Members of Justice and Diversity in Action (JDA) strive to create and sustain an environment that supports each other's work for social change and commitment to grow in knowledge of human diversity in all its aspects. Together, we seek to be open, honest, and sensitive in examining attitudes, prejudices, and actions that undermine respect for diversity and perpetuate injustice, as these arise both within and beyond the Georgetown University community.

We advocate for justice, as individuals and as a group. Our members come from all schools in the University; often there is good mix of international students as well as those who hail from the United States. Programming aims to grant residents the opportunity to learn more about prevalent social justice issues through both dialogue and engagement within the community; calling residents to be both open-minded and creative.

Together, Georgetown University's Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement (GRACE), Office of Student Employment, and Center for Social Justice announce a pilot program through which Federal Work Study (FWS)-eligible Georgetown University undergraduate students can intern with DC-based community organizations whose leaders have been recognized by the University's annual John Thompson, Jr. Legacy of a Dream Award.

When supporting a Legacy of a Dream (LoaD) Awardee Organization, LoaD Interns use their skills, time, energy, and capacities to support organization as needed and requested. While actual duties vary with each agency placement, the goal is for each Hoya to contribute to the agency's capacity with their contributions, support, and learning. LoaD interns are expected to be excellent representatives to Georgetown's commitment to social justice and follow all Student Conduct policies, both on and off campus. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Resource Center provides education, programming, support services, and voice to Georgetown students, faculty, staff, and alumni of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We are committed to understanding sexual orientation and gender identity in the context of and as it intersects with race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, ability, socio-economic status, and culture. The Center works toward a holistic understanding of LGBTQ communities; it takes leadership in providing and supporting a broad array of services, programs and resources to the campus community. Inspired by the Catholic and Jesuit principles of respect for the dignity of all, cura personalis, equality, and education of the whole person, the Center seeks to establish a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBTQ community members and promote better understanding and integration with the entire campus community.

The LGBTQ Resource Center, serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals, is the first such Center of its kind at a Catholic/Jesuit institution in the country. Our work focuses on four key areas:

Community Building: We are stronger when we come together. We seek to not only gather people together, but to build strong relationships marked by justice. Together, we can influence culture on the Hilltop.

Education & Outreach: We provide trainings and workshops for faculty, staff, and students. We are happy to partner with your organization to help you think through how gender functions in your organization. We offer programs and events in collaboration with student groups, academic units, and other campus partnersHealth and Wellness.

Support in navigating academic and student life: Staff are available to talk with students about anything and everything. We can connect you with resources, or help you think through topics like what you want to major in, how things are going with your roommates, whether you want to study abroad, how to navigate conflict with a friend, and all of the other things that come with student life.
Student Engagement and Leadership Development: We offer programs that help students cultivate and develop their leadership skills and unique strengths. These include lectures, discussions, and retreats. Our student staff are ambassadors of the LGBTQ Center. They lead their peers in conversation and events.

Health and Wellness: We work individually with students to help students address challenges and flourish at Georgetown. As a semi-confidential Title IX reporting space, we also help students in crisis situations. A semi-confidential space means that son-identifying information about an incident of sexual assault will be shared with a Title IX Coordinator; you will not be contacted by a Title IX Coordinator. Additionally, we are here to help you navigate the University Bias Reporting system for incidents inside and outside of the classroom. We can connect you with resources on and off-campus.

Advocacy and Empowerment: We challenge oppressive ideologies and encourage a holistic approach to community building and education.

The Male Development Association is a mentorship program sponsored by Georgetown's Center for Student Justice. MDA's trained mentors engage in digging deeper discussions revolved around a variety of issues and topics. The mission of the organization is to foster positive character development and academic achievement among youth from underserved communities in Washington, D.C. While keeping this mission at our core, the Association commits itself to building strong relationships with their young men and will do its best to help guide them throughout their high school and collegiate journeys. Our mission as a chapter on the Georgetown campus is to improve and celebrate menstrual hygiene through advocacy and service. Through advocacy, our mission is to promote menstrual hygiene as a right, and to challenge the stigma surrounding the topic of periods. In addition, we hope to educate and spread awareness about issues surrounding feminine hygiene through conversations and campaigns. Lastly, through service, our mission is to distribute menstrual hygiene products to women and girls in need in the DC area. The SFSAC is the elected representative organization of the SFS undergraduate population. As advocates for the SFS student body, the SFSAC collaborates with the Dean's Office, the Georgetown University Student Association, and the other academic councils to address issues pertaining to academic affairs, the student body in the SFS, and other initiatives developed to enhance the undergraduate experience. Additionally, the SFSAC enjoys membership on the SFS Curriculum Committee and the Georgetown University Inter-School Academic Council.

The committees of the SFSAC include Special Events, Communications, Advancement, Diplomatic Ball Planning, and Centennial. Through these committees, the SFSAC sponsors several events throughout the academic year, including the Diplomatic Ball, Trick or Treat on Embassy Row, and the Student-Faculty Banquet.

Slow Food aims to broaden the Georgetown student body's awareness of the importance of universal access to food that is good, clean, and fair. To us, good food is made with love and the intent to build community and bring sustenance; clean food is produced with respect for the environment and the health of those who consume it; and fair food is recognized as the result of the labor of many who deserve just compensation and equal access to food themselves, and recognizing and standing up to the violence that often accompanies food production. We seek to create a space on campus for students to come together to cultivate a better food system on campus and beyond.

Slow Food Georgetown acknowledges the vast inequities built into our food systems, and we seek to change that by 1) educating students about their food; 2) working on and off campus to reduce these inequities; and 3) empowering students to change the food system. As an official Slow Food USA chapter, we work within their Manifesto for Equity, Inclusion and Justice.

Our mission is to organize accessible swim instruction specifically designed for children with special needs in the greater DC community. The swim lessons aim to prevent accidental drowning, which is among the leading causes of death for children with intellectual disabilities. In addition to promoting water safety, SNUGS at Georgetown will create an inclusive social environment for the children and allow them to build meaningful relationships.

Our greater objectives are to cultivate awareness of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and to mitigate them through engagement and education in order to advance social justice.

The Georgetown University Social Innovation and Public Service (SIPS) Fund is a $1.5 million student-run fund that allocates approximately $60,000 in award money every year to help students and alumni start their own social ventures. The mission of SIPS grows out of the Jesuit tradition of service to others.

Some of the past projects funded by SIPS include funding the Alternative Break Program (ABP), creating a book that offers representation for chronically hospitalized children, and backing a startup which decreased food waste by sustainably creating cold-pressed juices. Through its Summer Scholars program, SIPS has also financed proposals which have done important work such as improving cooking practices in Rwanda by bringing stoves to communities and tracking their usage, introducing a community garden in N.E. DC, and holding a theater workshop in France to help facilitate dialogue between French and refugee people living in Paris. The Black House is the oldest affinity residence on Georgetown's campus. The Black House is a central hub for assessing and meeting the needs of Black students and the larger population of students of color by implementing programs, events, and dialogue in a community-centered space. the Black House remains one of the few dedicated places on campus where all students of color can gather to talk about issues, and meet one another. Black House residents are encouraged to design programs to promote, foster and acknowledge diversity and community on campus.

The Community Scholars Program (CSP) has led Georgetown's efforts to promote social justice for 50 years by enrolling a more racially and socioeconomically diverse student body. Managed by the Center for Multicultural Equity & Access (CMEA), the program provides enhanced educational opportunities for a multicultural cohort of first-generation college students who have achieved the dream of higher education through personal initiative, service, and academic excellence.

The Community Scholars experience begins with a five-week academic summer program prior to the student's first year at Georgetown designed to aid their transition to higher education. During the summer they take classes for credit, attend orientation workshops, and begin forming bonds with one another, teachers, and administrators that will help sustain them through college. The program supports its students throughout their Georgetown careers with academic advising, mentoring and personal counseling, study groups, workshops, and seminars. With a 92% graduation rate, CSP provides a diverse support network with proven results.

The purpose of The Georgetown Review is to offer a platform for open debate and discussion about important ideas, challenging questions, and other news, serving as an independent outlet for all student and faculty viewpoints on campus, especially conservative and libertarian views, which are traditionally absent or obscured in other campus media outlets. Founded in 2001, UNICEF-Georgetown is a student organization under the umbrella of Georgetown's Center for Social Justice (CSJ). We support the goals of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) through fundraising and bringing initiatives such as Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, the International Children's Development Conference, UNICEF-Teach, and marketing campaigns to the Georgetown campus. We also take Georgetown students off-campus to advocate on Capitol Hill and volunteer in the greater D.C. area. On a monthly or bi-weekly basis, we host bonding events and fundraisers for members and non-members to together celebrate our mission: EDUCATE, ADVOCATE, and FUNDRAISE for children.
