In order promote consciousness of the Asian American narrative and to amplify the voices of those who embody it, the Asian American Student Association is concerned with fostering dialogue and cooperation among Asian organizations at Georgetown, members of the Georgetown community concerned with Asian American issues, and organizations committed to diversity at Georgetown.

The Asian American Student Association serves its community by conducting outreach to the greater community beyond Georgetown, partnering with local organizations that advocate for the civil rights of Asian Americans, and working with the university administration to increase the visibility of the Asian American community at Georgetown University.

We, the Black Theatre Ensemble, appreciate the theatrical, performative, and technical talents of artists devoted to portraying and enriching the Black cultural heritage throughout the dramatic arts. The students of Georgetown University recognize the need for exposure to and more appreciation of the Black dramatic cultural heritage. Therefore, it is the intention of the G.U. Black Theatre Ensemble to produce works of Black artists and/or works relating to the experiences of the Black community. Above all, we seek to provide a voice for all communities traditionally underrepresented in the performative arts. Although we offer unique opportunities for minority students, namely students of color, to become involved in theater, we welcome the input, interest, and involvement of the entire Georgetown community.

First-Year Orientation to Community Involvement (FOCI) is an intensive pre-orientation program for incoming first-year and transfer students. FOCI serves as an introduction to community service, activism, and social justice issues in Washington, DC. FOCI participants actively engage in community service; discover and reflect on the diverse populations, perspectives, and roles that exist in the Georgetown and greater DC communities; develop leadership skills; and become part of a community committed to personal growth through service and reflection. FOCI activities address a wide variety of social justice issues, including education, sustainability, gentrification, immigration, LGBTQ access, and hunger and homelessness. The week involves lively discussions with Campus Ministry, faculty, student leaders, and DC community members.

The Georgetown University Armed Forces Association works to foster a greater sense of community among Georgetown ROTC cadets, the Georgetown military community, and the Georgetown student body. Additionally, GUAFA works to introduce students to military culture and challenge assumptions and/or stereotypes students may have in regards to the military. To accomplish this, GUAFA invites students to Army ROTC morning workouts, encourages members to participate in various GUAFA service events, and brings in unique speakers with military experience via our connection to the Hoya Battalion. GUAFA also serves as a support structure for any student who would like to serve in the armed forces, especially if they would like to serve through ROTC or Officer Candidate School. For those who consider the military a possible career path, GUAFA offers one-on-one mentorship to answer any questions students may have about a military career and help them through the joining process. GUAFA is open to all students with an appreciation for public service or service in any capacity so that its members can actively promote Georgetown's Jesuit Values in conjunction with the Army values for Hoyas past, present, and future.

The Georgetown University Astronomical Society (GUAS) meets weekly in the Heyden Observatory (founded in the 1841) on campus. GUAS educates the Georgetown community on matters of astronomy and the night sky and brings in speakers working in space-related industries on the scientific side (i.e. professors and NASA researchers), policy side (i.e. Office of Commercial Space Transportation), and commercial side (i.e. SpaceX). GUAS has an extensive alumni network, and is open-membership.

The Georgetown University Creative Writing Club is focused on giving Georgetown writers space to share their work, receive feedback, and meet fellow writers on campus. There's no application process, no attendance or submission requirements, and no required skill levels--no catch. We are open to all writers of all genres and all backgrounds. We host weekly writing workshops where members give feedback on submitted pieces and write off of a variety of prompts, where writers are invited to work on their creative projects with friendly creative types.

Founded in 2008, Georgetown Equestrian is now in its 16th year of IHSA competition in Zone 4, Region 1. We take weekly hunt seat lessons at The Other Left in Burtonsville, Maryland. The team consists of approximately 10 to 15 riders a semester, from walk-trot levels to open jumpers. There are numerous shows a semester, and riders compete to qualify for Regional, Zone, and National Finals. Moot Court emulates appellate court proceedings in the form of inter-collegiate competition. Each year, the American Moot Court Association (AMCA) releases a hypothetical case that deals with one or more constitutional issues. Among the nation's leading undergraduate law journals, Georgetown University Undergraduate Law Review analyzes the most consequential issues in law, policy, philosophy, history, and politics. GUULR is dedicated to providing a visible forum for legal debate, discussion, and reflection. In providing a platform for authors to explore and articulate their innovative legal thoughts and ideas, we hope to promote a more nuanced understanding of prevalent questions and concerns about our legal institutions.

GUULR is entirely student-run. The year-long process commences with an extensive search for the most notable works from students at the nation's finest universities, as well as from judges, professors, and legal practitioners. Every GUULR article then endures a rigorous editing and revision process in order to ensure that it reaches its full potential and strength before publishing. Furthermore, undergraduate students are given the unique opportunity to engage in every stage of the publishing process, from conducting thorough legal research and investigating, to writing and re-writing drafts, to polishing Bluebook citations. GUULR strives for excellence, both in our final product, and in shaping more capable and experienced writers.

The Georgetown University Grilling Society, or simply GUGS (the first "g" is soft, as in "genius") was founded in the Summer of 2002 with a few simple goals in mind, to create an organization attractive to Georgetown students who:

- love to grill
- love to cook and eat good food
- want to meet new and exciting people
- want to learn more about the art of grilling
- want to share their knowledge of grilling with others
- want to be a part of a special Georgetown tradition

Since its humble beginnings as a 4-person club with one mysteriously-acquired grill, GUGS has grown into one of Georgetown's most popular social collectives. The members come first, fun comes second, while food conveniently binds them together.

Spring of 2004, GUGS was co-named Outstanding Student Organization of the Year. In the fall of 2004, GUGS shared the 1st place award for Best Traditions during the Georgetown Traditions Day competition. It is without a doubt that with the continuing support of our members and fans, the Grilling Society will continue to thrive in the Georgetown community, bringing good food and good atmosphere to students, faculty, administration, and visitors alike!

Each spring, the Center for Multicultural Equity & Access (CMEA) hosts Hoya Saxa Weekend in partnership with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Georgetown University is proud to serve those who have served our country. Our office serves to support the opportunities of military members accessing higher education to ensure a campus culture that cares for the entire spectrum of military-connected students. The mission of our services is to instill the Jesuit spirit of cura personalis into everyday connections among the military-connected community.

The University recognized the need for dedicated support services to serve as a base of information and services to prospective, current, and alumni military-connected students and out of that recognition, the Veterans Office was established in 2011. The leadership of military-connected students, faculty, and administrators have worked diligently to create a campus culture to assist navigating the complexities of the education benefits, transitioning to a new academic environment, adjusting to Washington D.C. or virtual learning, establishing relationships with other military-connected students on campus, and connecting with career opportunities while enrolled and post-graduation.

Georgetown University's Veterans Office serves military-connected students as they apply to, attend and advance beyond Georgetown. The Hilltop is home to close to 1,400 military-connected students including servicemembers, veterans, and military families. The Veterans Office connects military-connected students with the resources they need to successfully transition from military service to classroom to career. Our office serves as a liaison and advisor to ensure prospective and current military students receive accurate and comprehensive information around admissions, finances, academic support, career networking, and support services.

The Multicultural Graduations are part of the official Georgetown University commencement schedule and are a way to bring students of color together for a final ceremony before graduation. Upon attending, each student will be honored with a stole. There are three ceremonies:

Asian Heritage celebrates the achievements of our Asian American and Pacific Islander graduates and allies of the Georgetown University AAPI community. It aims to recognize the achievements of the graduates, and celebrate the cultures and legacies that shaped their journeys here at the Hilltop.

Harambee is an annual ceremony dedicated to recognizing graduating seniors who identify with communities of the African Diaspora. This ceremony collectively celebrates the individual achievements of students in obtaining college diplomas and honors the community and legacy Black graduating students have created and actively cultivated here at Georgetown.

Despedida is an annual ceremony dedicated to celebrating the cultural diversity and history of the Latinx community and Chicanas/Chicanos at Georgetown University. Officially founded in 2013, Georgetown Parliamentary Debate has established itself in the American Parliamentary Debate Association league, finishing 7th in the nation as a university in 2018 and 4th in the nation in 2019. A Georgetown team also won the prestigious Team of the Year (TOTY) award with impressive finishes at tournaments throughout the year. With a new officer and member core, we are ready to travel and compete intensely in the 2019-2020 season. The Philodemic Society is Georgetown's premier on-campus debating society. Over 185 years old, the Philodemic Society is more than a student organization - it is a Georgetown institution. According to our motto, "In pursuit of eloquence in defense of liberty," the Society has a long history of excellence in debate and public speaking. The Society gathers each and every week to discuss a preset topic. Topics cover a wide range of issues—cultural, political, and philosophical. The debates are structured and formal but require little preparation. All are welcome to attend and to participate. Most attendees wear business formal, but this is not a barrier to attendance or participation.

GU Pride is committed to working towards a more just and open society in which all LGBTQ+ people fully accept themselves and are accepted by the world around them. We aim to provide an atmosphere in which LGBTQ+ individuals can develop and strengthen a sense of pride, self-worth, awareness, and belonging in the community. We want to be advocates for every member of our community as we work to eliminate prejudice based on gender identity and sexual orientation, both by providing access to on-campus connections and resources as well as combatting discrimination in all its forms both on- and off-campus. The Senior Class Committee (SCC) of Georgetown University is led by a board of ten students with the goal of producing a memorable last year at Georgetown by exposing seniors to culturally diverse experiences, charitable services, and transitional activities geared towards post collegiate life.

The Senior Class Committee plans the major Senior social events including Disorientation, Senior Homecoming, Senior Parents Weekend, Senior Auction, Senior Ball, and Senior Week. We also host lectures by some of Georgetown's most distinguished faculty, organize Career Education Center events, invite young alumni to advise and speak to Seniors, and host community outreach and service initiatives.

Slow Food aims to broaden the Georgetown student body's awareness of the importance of universal access to food that is good, clean, and fair. To us, good food is made with love and the intent to build community and bring sustenance; clean food is produced with respect for the environment and the health of those who consume it; and fair food is recognized as the result of the labor of many who deserve just compensation and equal access to food themselves, and recognizing and standing up to the violence that often accompanies food production. We seek to create a space on campus for students to come together to cultivate a better food system on campus and beyond.

Slow Food Georgetown acknowledges the vast inequities built into our food systems, and we seek to change that by 1) educating students about their food; 2) working on and off campus to reduce these inequities; and 3) empowering students to change the food system. As an official Slow Food USA chapter, we work within their Manifesto for Equity, Inclusion and Justice.

The Black House is the oldest affinity residence on Georgetown's campus. The Black House is a central hub for assessing and meeting the needs of Black students and the larger population of students of color by implementing programs, events, and dialogue in a community-centered space. the Black House remains one of the few dedicated places on campus where all students of color can gather to talk about issues, and meet one another. The Caravel is the only on-campus publication that focuses on reporting and analyzing domestic and international news, providing a unique platform for students interested in international affairs to be published regularly.

The Caravel offers a distinct experience to students who want to learn more about journalism. As a newly-established publication, the Caravel is growing its staff, and there are many opportunities for you to make an impact!

Working for the Caravel promises to be a demanding but rewarding experience that helps writers interested in international affairs to become regional experts and provides hands-on experience developing a dynamic publication.

Positions Available

Editorial Staff
The editorial staff of the Caravel is responsible for the substance of the newspaper, operating on a weekly cycle, and is divided into seven sections, including six international sections and the United States. In addition, we also have a copy team that edits the content for all seven sections.

The United States: The United States explores domestic news and Georgetown events relevant to international affairs. As a writer for the United States, you will have the chance to obtain press passes to cover events both on- and off-campus. Writers for this section have previously covered events featuring former-President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former-President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff, and President of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Regional Sections: There are six regional sections in the Caravel: Eastern Europe & Russia, Latin America & the Caribbean, the Indo-Asia-Pacific, the Middle East & Central Asia, Africa, and Western Europe & Canada.

Executive Staff
The executive staff is primarily focused on running the day-to-day operations of the Caravel. We have two main responsibilities: Marketing & Public Relations and Sales & Outreach. Our marketing and PR department deals with graphic design, ad positioning, in-school promotional efforts, and the management of the Caravel's relationship with other media organizations on campus. The sales and outreach department seeks to sell advertising space, attempting to find and solicit new advertisers for our newspaper.

Digital Operations
Digital Operations seeks to bridge the gap between traditional journalism and social media-based reporting. The section produces a world news review twice weekly, three thematic newsletters dealing with inter-regional trends, and special reports that cover international events in real-time.

Compass World: Compass World publishes a holistic review of global news on Tuesdays and Fridays and includes special reports that cover international elections, summits, and exclusive reporting.

Compass Gender: Compass Gender covers developments at the intersections of sex, sexuality, race, and class against the backdrop of international affairs.

Compass Futures: Compass Futures highlights how science and technology are redefining our world, bringing to the forefront new challenges in fields like global health, climate change, pollution, artificial intelligence, and more.

Compass Money: Compass Money delivers the latest news on international business, economics, and foreign trade.

The mission of the Georgetown Federalist Society is to foster critical thought and debate about the application of conservative and libertarian principles to the law. The Federalist Society embraces the principle that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to the integrity of the Constitution of the United States of America, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is – not what it should be. The Federalist Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities. This entails reordering priorities within the legal system to place a premium on individual liberty, traditional values, and the rule of law. It also entails restoring recognition of these norms among lawyers, judges, students, and professors.
