The After School Kids (ASK) Program serves at-potential teens in the DC metropolitan area who are making positive strides in their lives and to be catalysts for change in their community. Our youth are adversely impacted by the cradle-to-prison pipeline and may experience obstacles to obtaining their high school diploma, exploring careers, or advancing their postsecondary education. It is not uncommon for our youth to experience chronic trauma exposure, involvement in the court system, and to be over-aged and under-credited. Despite obstacles, our youth envision a brighter future through education, social action, and wellness. ASK provides programming and support to help them realize their vision.

GRC is a running community made up of members of all abilities. The club provides opportunities to run recreationally as well as to compete in intercollegiate XC and track meets. We meet daily at the John Carroll statue, but attendance is not mandatory. Members participate as frequently or infrequently as they like. Founded in 2008, Georgetown Equestrian is now in its 16th year of IHSA competition in Zone 4, Region 1. We take weekly hunt seat lessons at The Other Left in Burtonsville, Maryland. The team consists of approximately 10 to 15 riders a semester, from walk-trot levels to open jumpers. There are numerous shows a semester, and riders compete to qualify for Regional, Zone, and National Finals. Our mission at SweetStrips is to reduce the disparity of type 2 diabetes in D.C. Currently, diabetes affects over 30 million individuals in the United States and over 60,000 in DC alone. Since 1984 we have seen a 384% increase in diagnosis of diabetes, a large part of this increase has been due to changes in our diets and exercise.

SweetStrips hopes to combat this increase by spreading awareness of proper nutrition and exercise. We believe that healthy practices are best formed and retained from an early age. Utilizing a Center for Disease Control guideline for healthy living and diabetes prevention, we have designed a curriculum that incorporates its essential elements into a fun and interactive series of lessons for children in elementary school. We hope to work with your students and together create a healthier future for DC.

The Georgetown Wrestling Club seeks to bring one of the world's oldest and most decorated sports to Georgetown's campus. We accept people at all skill and interest levels and teach them the fundamentals of wrestling. In addition, we seek to provide competition opportunities to those who desire them.

GlobeMed is a network of university students that partners with grassroots organizations around the world to improve the health of people living in poverty. GlobeMed has chapters at many universities throughout the United States. GlobeMed at Georgetown has partnered with Primeros Pasos, a clinic in rural Guatemala that serves the local community, for over 10 years. We have weekly meetings to discuss global health issues and fundraise for the clinic throughout the year. In today's pandemic, the inequities in health are evident and we are focused on educating ourselves and advocating for the right to healthcare. Everyone is welcome to join GlobeMed at Georgetown. The GSPSO is an organization open to all graduate students in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, Georgetown University. It was founded in 2000 with the aim of creating a forum for discussion of issues of common interest among graduate students, as well as organize workshops and events that benefit graduate students.

The GSPSO holds periodic meetings in which important matters are undertaken concerning students' funding and responsibilities as well as changes to the graduate guidelines and academic progress requirements. Both the Department's Chair and the Directors of Graduate Studies have expressed their desire to give graduate students an active role in the Department and to improve communication with them. In order to facilitate this interaction, periodic meetings with the students' representatives have been established as well as informational meetings for all graduate students. We hope to continue extending this dialog over the next year.

Our intention is to make the graduate students' experience in this department as fruitful as possible. We hope you will want to be a part of this, and will bring your own energies and ideas to bear in the GSPSO.

GUMAPS is a program sponsored by the Student National Medical Association. SNMA is the oldest and largest medical student organization dedicated to underrepresented or underprivileged pre-health students and underserved communities. Committed to increasing the number of culturally capable and sensitive physicians, the SNMA is also dedicated to the academic and clinical success of medical students and pre-health students.

GUMAPS supports the fundamental academic and extracurricular requirements of pre-health students by
-facilitating participation in medical research through mentor-pairing
-increasing involvement within service projects and volunteer opportunities
-allotting tutors
-and assisting in the preparation for entrance exams of graduate health professional schools.

GUMAPS aims to increase awareness concerning ethnic health disparities worldwide, thereby ensuring a diverse range of future health professionals that are not only ethnically competent and culturally sensitive, but socially conscious as well.

Health Education Services (HES) is the primary campus provider of health education, and seeks to promote the health and well being of all students through care for the WHOLE Hoya: body, mind, and soul. HES has a mission of helping students feel empowered around their health and wellness.

Membership Benefits
HES offers consultation, networking, and advocacy for primary prevention, risk reduction, and disease prevention. We also provide confidential assessment, treatment, and/or referrals for students experiencing problems with substance abuse, eating disorders, sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, pregnancy, and health. We also connect students to other campus health professionals and members of the community at large.

HES provides regular educational outreach and consultation to students and others within the University. We often serve as the first point of contact for students who have problems but are not sure what to do or where to go. Students do not need a referral to seek services from a health professional in our office, and we do not charge for services.

"Our mission is to empower, prepare, and better equip the community to deal with any situation in which Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Automated External Defibrillator (AED) skills are required." Heroes for Hearts aims to increase the rate of bystander CPR performed by an individual at the scene of a heart attack or stroke, in an effort to save lives. Our motto is, "20 minutes. Let's Save a Life." Taking just 20 minutes out of a single day can provide an individual with the skills, training, and knowledge to potentially save someone's life.
