GUMSHOE's mission is to provide remedial instruction and tutoring in math and science to elementary, middle, and high school students within the DC Public School system. Our organization is comprised on undergraduate and graduate students from Georgetown University who have strong a understanding of the topics in which they tutor. Our goal is to foster not only an understanding of, but also an appreciation for math and the sciences in hopes of narrowing the achievement gap that exists in the DC Public School system. Mission
Hoya Helpers tutors 6th and 7th graders at Hardy Middle School, located across from Safeway on Wisconsin, in both math and English. We offer tutoring every week, five days a week, and each tutor signs up for at least one one-hour shift that recurs weekly. Our large tutoring sessions occur twice a week from 3:30-4:30, and we also provide tutoring throughout the school day. Tutors work one-on-one with struggling students to help them complete their homework and learn basic skills. We do not create lesson plans of our own, but instead supplement and clarify the information they are already learning from their teachers. As these are some of the few remaining years that students have left before 9th grade, we see it as a crucial period in which students have a chance to catch up and get back on track before high school.
